1) Friends First

  • Yes people marry their best friends.

  • Build genuine friendship with him or her before courtship.

  • Get to know this person genuinely, in a relaxed low pressure setting. Don't rush.

  • It's easier to maintain peace with a friend vs. an ex.

2) What is he/she looking for?

  • Do they actually want to get married one day?

  • When do they want to get married?

  • Do they want children?

  • Where do they want to live?

  • These are important questions to ask to determine if you are compatible.

3) Be Prudent, Have Discretion

  • Understand human nature

  • Understand how relationships work

  • Learn to have good judgement

  • How? Read books, start in the Bible 📖Proverbs

4) Introduce Him/Her to your Circle

  • You have blind-spots even the most spiritual people have them

  • Other people can see what you can't see

  • Let your friends, homecell / connect group see them

  • A Godly leader can provide godly counsel

5) Be Wise and Discerning

  • Wisdom comes from God

  • Discernment comes from your relationship with the Holy Spirit

  • The Holy Spirit can nudge you if something is off

  • Don't ignore that still small voice

6) Don't Give Him/Her Money

  • Money can complicate things.

  • Being a Christian doesn't mean you should be naive

  • Don't be gullible

  • This is why you need Discernment

  • Wisdom teaches you to discern when to help a friend in need and know when you are being used for money.

  • Don't allow yourself to be love bombed, be careful about receiving gifts/money

  • Not every gift is a gift, some "gifts" are bribes

7) No Sex!

  • No friends with benefits.

  • Having sex with someone you are not married to is complete disobedience to God.

  • In simple terms, it's dangerous.

  • Sex outside of marriage is deadly...

  • It leads to soul ties, and even puts your health at risk.

8) Don't Be Desperate

  • Desperate Singles make foolish decisions.

  • When you are desperate to find a spouse, you put unnecessary pressure on yourself.

  • Desperation fogs your brain, you can't think clearly.

  • Desperation makes you lower godly biblical standards.

  • Desperation leads you to compromise.

  • Desperation makes you impatient.

9) Before You Catch Feelings…

  • Be sober, be vigilant

  • Be sober about your feelings towards that man or woman

  • Intense feelings will lead to heartbreak

10) Don't Mislead Him / Her

  • Be open and honest about what you want

  • Communicate your intentions clearly

  • Check your own behaviour towards that person. Is it misleading?

  • Don't treat them like a romantic partner if they are not.

  • Both of you have to agree to be in a relationship. If he/she doesn't clearly agree, then you are not in a relationship

  • Respect their decision if they don't want a relationship with you.

  • Let him / her go in peace. Don't linger around.
